I have been enjoying the PBS Masterpiece Classics presentation of Downton Abbey the last three weeks. Set in England in 1913, it tells a tale of Changing Times and traditions in Edwardian England. The cast is excellent, including Elizabeth McGovern as Cora; the handsome Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley; and my favorite Maggie Smith as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham. The 4 part series is airing January 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2011 on the local PBS affiliates.
I enjoy the period costumes and sets, the historical perspective, and the romance. But what I found different about this Edwardian Drama is the perspective of the House Servants of Downton Abbey...you get quite a bit of insight into the lives of the Maids, Housekeepers, Butlers, and other staff.
Intrigue, Drama, Romance, and Catfights....gotta love it :)
Quite enjoyable, two thumbs up. Also available online if you don't catch it the first time around.
Item of note...Season 2 begins January 2012
